January 6, 2012 - BrigliaMcLaughlin, PLLC, a nationally recognized construction law firm based in Tysons Corner, Virginia, is pleased to announce that Robert J. Dietz has been made Of Counsel to the firm.

Mr. Dietz, a 2004 graduate of the Washington & Lee University School of Law, has been with the firm since December 2008. A transplanted Floridian, he earned his Bachelor of Arts from the University of Florida in 2000. Prior to joining the firm, Mr. Dietz served first as a judicial law clerk to the Honorable John H. Tisdale in the Circuit Court for Frederick County, Maryland.  Thereafter, he associated with other national and regional construction law firms, focusing his practice in the areas of construction law, government contracts and surety defense.  Since joining the firm, Mr. Dietz has continued to refine his areas of practice and hone his trial skills, obtaining numerous successful outcomes for our clients in a variety of matters in Virginia and Maryland courts. Mr. Dietz will continue expanding his experience and taking on added responsibility for the firm’s clients and management in his new role with the firm.

Super Lawyer for her work in construction and surety law. Super Lawyers is a rating service of outstanding lawyers from more than 70 practice areas who have attained a high-degree of peer recognition and professional achievement. The selection process is multi-phased and includes independent research, peer nominations and peer evaluations. Only 5% of attorneys in the Washington, D.C. area are awarded this honor each year.

LAUREN P. MCLAUGHLIN SPEAKS AT 32ND ANNUAL CONSTRUCTION AND PUBLIC CONTRACTS LAW CONFERENCE. PDF Print

Lauren P. McLaughlin recently spoke at the 32nd Annual Construction and Public Contracts Law Conference, held in Charlotesville, VA in November 2011.  Ms. McLaughlin advised conference attendees on legal issues arising from the surety’s involvement in performance bond claims. Ms. McLaughlin presented a paper, “The Troubled Project – from the Surety’s Perspective” and spoke with co-panelist Mr. James Kisner of Developers Surety & Indemnity Company. BRIGLIAMCLAUGHLIN WELCOMES TWO NEW ATTORNEYS. PDF Print

November 7, 2011 – BrigliaMcLaughlin is delighted to announce that in the last twelve months, the firm has welcomed two litigation attorneys to the firm – Shoshana E. Rothman and Shiva Sharifahmadian.

Shoshana (“Shana”) Rothman joined the firm as an associate in November 2010.  Prior to joining the firm, Ms. Rothman focused her practice on representing construction, government contracts, and surety clients. Ms. Rothman is a graduate of American University, Washington College of Law, where she was a member of the Moot Court Honor Society and an intern for the U.S. District Court for the District of Maryland. Ms. Rothman is licensed to practice in Virginia and the District of Columbia.

Shiva Sharifahmadian joined the firm as an associate in June 2011. Prior to joining the firm, Ms. Sharifahmadian represented clients in multidistrict litigation and class action suits at the law firm of Finkelstein Thompson, LLP in Washington, D.C.  Ms. Sharifahmadian is a graduate from George Mason University School of Law, where she served on the Editorial Board of the Journal of Law, Economics and Policy, was a member of the American Inn of Court, and worked as a judicial intern in the Fairfax County Circuit Court for the Honorable Leslie M. Alden. Ms. Sharifahmadian is licensed to practice in Virginia, the District of Columbia, and California.

ROBERT J. DIETZ OBTAINS COMPLETE DEFENSE VERDICT IN FAVOR OF SURETY. PDF Print

October 19, 2011 - Robert J. Dietz of BrigliaMcLaughlin recently obtained a complete defense verdict for a surety client on a payment bond claim in Maryland. The surety had been sued by a claimant under theories of breach of contract and bad faith.  At trial, Mr. Dietz was able to prove that the surety had not breached the contract and had not acted in bad faith in denying the payment bond claim. Therefore, the court found in favor of the surety and denied the claimant any damages.
